CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

DOG JUDGE – CAROLE BAILEY

Many thanks to the Committee for inviting me to judge at this well run, friendly show. Special thanks to the exhibitors for their lovely entry of quality dogs. Also, thank you to my very efficient Steward Jen Davies. I had the greatest honour of having Mr Brian Limpus as my Co Judge, we had mutual respect for each other’s winners and being of the same opinion the major awards were thus. Best in Show (and winning his third CC on the day) was Alofrana All I ask of Eveandabec JW, Reserve Best in Show was IR SH CH Gwendariff Pink Champagne IKC. Congratulations to both owners and breeders. Reserve Best dog SH CH & IR SH CH Gwendariff Absolutely Marwe’llus (IKC) WW24, CW24, Best Puppy in Show was Gwendariff Skys The Limit beating the BDP Gwendariff Bobby Dazzler (IKC). BVIS was Lochlorien True Detective is Andley and BVD was SH CH Lanstara Spring Moon. Many Congratulations to all.

MINOR PUPPY (6.0)

Lovely class of quality puppies at various stages of development.

1st Walker’s Gwendariff Hanky Panky

Possesses a very pleasing head, nicely balanced and dark eyes with typical Irish Setter expression. Shown in lovely coat and condition. Liked his outline and overall size. Well reared with good body and bone. Nicely angulated. Decent depth to chest, neat at elbow, straight forelegs led done to neat feet with short nails. Steady and happy on the move. Just lacked the maturity of the PD in the challenge.

2nd Crocker and Frost’s Ronaldo Lofty with Riverbrue (IMP POL) NAF TAF

Another quality youngster liked his type, overall construction, and head piece. Balanced in outline. Good length to neck, fits neatly into his shoulders. Decent depth to chest and pronounced sternum. Short hocks and neat tight feet. Handled well and presented in rich dark coat. Felt 1st was just a tad more positive on the move.

3rd Gilbert’s Kerrimere Night Breeze Among Joanmas

PUPPY (3:0)

1st Dewar’s Gwendariff Bobby Dazzler (IKC)

Have admired this puppy from the ringside so was nice to have the opportunity to judge him. Shown well and presented in beautiful coat and condition. Pleasing outline, nicely balanced and as required full of quality. Handsome in head, dark eyes showed desired expression I love in this breed. Correct length to neck, fitting neatly into his shoulders, decent spring of rib for his age, and good depth to brisket. Straight forelegs leading down to neat tight feet and short nails. Decent bend to stifle and straight short hocks. Moved well with lashing tail, carried correctly. Pleased to award him Best Puppy Dog, showed himself off well for BPIS but the PB just had the edge on footfall in the challenge. Good Luck with him, I am sure he will have a bright future.

2nd Lorrimer’s Gwendariff Disco Dazzler (IKC)

Litter brother to my first so much applies also to this quality puppy. Beautifully handled and presented as I would expect by his owner. Just a shade lighter in coat than his brother. Has lovely head with moderate length of ears, low set, and dark eyes showing kindly expression. Just a tad less positive on the move than the winner but was more settled in the Novice class. Should have a good future like his litter brother.

3rd Tupper & Rosie’s Alofrana’s Welsh Crusader

VETERAN DOG (4.0)

Every owner of the four dogs in this class should be proud, the condition and presentation of the dogs in this class was amazing. They made my heart sing! Thank you for entering these lovely lads, they were all a credit to you on the day.

1st Rowbottom’s Sh Ch Lanstara Spring Moon

I awarded this dog BIS awhile back, so, it gave me immense pleasure to judge him again, also, to see in the catalogue he had sired my BPD. Quality specimen of the breed, nicely constructed throughout, still with good muscle tone and presented in fabulous coat and condition. Lovely outline, gentle sloping topline from withers to tail set, which he held on the move. Most handsome of heads with the sweetest of expressions. It was a cracking class he won as filled with quality exhibits in fine form for their age. He moved well, but in the challenge for BVIS the bitch just had the edge on movement. The exhibitor and breeder must be extremely proud of this lovely lad.

2nd Greenan’s Anlory Aiden JW

Have admired this dog outside the ring and as a fellow exhibitor. Again, nicely presented in lovely coat and condition and shown to advantage in the ring. Loved his balanced head, dark eyes of correct shape and low set ears. Just a tad of “White Glitter” enhanced his lovely features. Not exaggerated in any way giving a pleasing outline whilst stood. Nicely constructed, with plenty of depth to chest, good spring of rib and correct tail set. Moderate length of neck fitting nicely into his shoulders. Good bend to stifle and neat hocks. Moved well, holding his topline.

3rd Russell’s Sh Ch Lynwood Hocus Pocus at Settesoli JW

JUNIOR DOG (7:2)

1ST Jacobs & Bernard’s Forfarian Fancy Footwork

This young lad is a very nice example of the breed, with good construction, nicely angulated fore and aft, well off for bone and muscle tone. Taller and longer cast than 2nd. Gleaming coat with ample feathering for his age. Gentle sloping topline from withers leading to correct tail set. Good bend of stifle and neat hocks. Liked his head and expression. Moved a tad unsteady but best mover in the class on the day.

2nd Russell’s Tiroen Touch of Magic by Settesoli (IMP KCJ) JW

I really like this young lad and have often admired him. Has the sweetest of heads and lovely expression. Posed a nice picture when stood, not over done, and balanced in profile. Straight front nicely angulated both front and rear, neat at elbow, with decent depth to chest and good spring of rib for his age. Liked his ratio of rib to loin and thereby stood over a nice amount of ground for me. Just a tad more unsettled on the move which lost him the first place. I am sure these two nice lads with often change places.

3rd Davison’s Bardonhill Love Me Tender

YEARLING DOG (3:0)

1ST Dank-Kemish’s Alolfrana All I Ask Of Eveandabec JW

This lovely male was placed in front of me to judge and I immediately thought WOW! Loved him and must compliment both his breeder and handler for such a stunning example of our breed. This young male is produced from lineage I have often admired. He ticked all the boxes for me in overall construction, bone, muscle tone. head, coat and movement. He is still young, but very mature for his age in both body and coat finish. Possess a masculine, handsome head piece and he is nicely balanced in body without exaggeration. Handled and presented to perfection as I would expect from this team. Moved with animation and drive. One of the best movers on the day and was pleased to award his 3rd CC, then with the total agreement of my Co Judge, BIS. Many Congratulations.

2nd Richardson’s Bardonhill McIntosh Red At Montgreenan JW

Unlucky to meet the first dog on the day as I have liked this young male since he was a puppy. He presents a lovely outline when stood with a gentle sloping topline and is balanced without any exaggeration. Quality example of the breed has a lovely head with the kindest of expression. Showed his typically Irish temperament whilst I was going over him which made me smile. Shown well and presented in fabulous dark shining coat with ample feathering. Clean neck of good length, fitting correctly into his shoulders. Ribs well sprung, good depth to chest and elbows well let down and close to body. Straight forelegs with good length and bone. Rear quarters having good bend of stifle, with width to first and second thigh and straight short hocks. Moved well with drive and good footfall.

3rd Edwards’ Coppers Get Off My Cloud by Bonhomie (IMP SWE)

MAIDEN DOG (1:1)

NOVICE DOG (3:1)

1st Lorrimer’s Gwendariff Disco Dazzler (IKC)

Was 2nd in PD.

2nd Davison’s Bardonhill Love Me Tender

Was 3rd in my Junior Class, unsettled on the move today, think this lad would perhaps prefer to move in a larger ring on grass. Possess a lovely head, low set ears, dark eyes with desired expression. Nicely constructed presents a lovely racy outline with a gently sloping topline. Straight front, good depth to chest and decent spring of rib. Nice bend of stifle and short straight hocks. Presented in lovely coat and condition.

UNDER GRADUATE DOG (1:0)

1st Gilray’s Jonola Singapore Sling

Stylish male was presented in good coat and condition and handled well. Liked his balanced head, from pronounced occiput to the tip of his dark nose. His ears are of correct length and laid close to his head. Eyes showed typically expression and loved the temperament of this lad who strutted his stuff on the move with lashing tail which he held correctly. Overall, he is nicely constructed, with, straight forelegs, good spring of rib, depth of chest and nice bend of stifle. Moved well with good footfall.

GRAUATE DOG (8:1)

Cracking class of quality males.

1st Bott’s Bardonhill Million To One

Typical example from this kennel so nicely bred with no exaggeration. From the catalogue I see he was sired by a dog I always admired. This dog much appealed, being balanced and full of quality. Lovely in outline with a gently sloping topline from withers to his correct tail set. Shown in good coat, with ample feathering. Nicely constructed with good angulation fore and aft. This lad’s clean neck fits neatly into his shoulders, has good return of upper arm, nice depth to chest, well spring ribs and muscular loin. Most handsome of heads with correct dark eye and low set ears. He stands over the right amount of ground for me. His movement was sound with good footfall. Was in consideration for the RDCC.

2nd Allan’s Glencarron Show Must Go On JW

A lovely example of the breed, presented and handled to perfection as I would expect. Shown in lovely coat with lush feathering. Handsome, balanced head with typical Irish expression, he melts one’s heart. He presents with a racy, balanced outline and is not over done in any form. Nicely constructed throughout, with decent front and rear angulation. Forelegs are straight with good bone leading to neat tight feet. Nicely toned muscle to thigh, good bend to stifle and neat hocks. Clean muscular neck fits neatly into his shoulders, he has good return of upper arm and ample lung room. He moved well with animation and drive.

3rd Levene & Lewis’ Quensha Remember The Name Valasarch

POST GRADUATE DOG (4:0)

1st Parsons’ Quensha Thinking Out Loud At Bransett JW

Presented a very pleasing picture whilst stood in fabulous coat with profuse feathering. He is not the easiest dog to show I should imagine but his owner gets the absolute best from him as I would expect. “Naughty but Nice” so the saying goes. This male is nicely made throughout, easy to go over, my hands easily glided over him. He has plenty of depth to his chest, pronounced sternum, good return of upper arm and neat at elbow. Good overall muscle tone, so this boy obviously enjoys plenty of exercise. Nicely angulated both fore and aft. The icing on the cake is his handsome balanced head. Moved well once settled.

2nd Corless’ Swiftlark Spellbinder

Another I have admired, lovely to have the opportunity to judge this dog. As desired, presents the typical outline when stood with firm topline which he held on the move. Moderate in all aspects and not overdone in any way. He appealed for his overall shape and size, Slightly smaller than 1st handled to advantage and shown in lovely coat and condition. Head of good proportions, with, raised brow and moderately deep muzzle Straight in foreleg, good bone, and neat tight feet with short nails. Both front and rear angulation was good, with nice bone and muscle tone. Moved well.

3rd Sheldon’s A Million Ways To Delsanto

MID LIMIT DOG (5:0)

1st Richardson’s Gwendariff Tully’s Red Arrows

Drew my attention as soon as he entered the ring. Presented in lovely condition, with luscious dark coat and profuse feathering. I appreciate the effort and time it takes to have a dog in such good coat and body condition, so much work has obviously gone into his everyday wellbeing. He presents a beautiful picture when stood, nicely balanced, and handled to advantage. I very much liked his overall makeup; he is nice to go over which his well-constructed frame allows. Has good bone and muscle tone, with plenty of width to his thighs and decent bend of stifle, leading to short hocks and neat feet. His front angulation fairs well with pronounced sternum, good return of upper arm and neat at elbow. He moved with drive and good footfall. Another I considered for the RDCC unlucky to meet my main winners on the day. Sure, top honours will come his way soon.

2nd Hemmings Orlansett Mandolin

Different type to first, but I did like this dog a lot. He lacked the finish of first but feel more is yet to come with this lad. Presents with a racy outline, his topline is firm and gentle slopes from withers to tail set. Really liked his head, masculine and balanced. Dark eyes of desired shape giving that all important kind intelligent expression I adore in this breed. His ears are low set and lay close to his head, muzzle is fairly square. Nicely constructed, good depth to chest and well sprung ribs with slightly arched muscular loin. Tail set on correctly and carried level with his back on the move. He moved well around the ring with good flow and drive.

3rd Cohen’s Lynwood Merry May King With Shushana

LIMIT DOG (6:0)

1ST Gardner’s Quensha Walk Me Home To Danwish

New one to me and another who I very much liked from this Kennel. Very nice lad shown off to advantage by his owner and presented in beautiful coat and condition. Obviously enjoys good exercise which showed in his general condition and muscle tone. Loveliest of heads, desired width of scull, oval, and allowing for plenty of brain room. Dark eyes of preferred shape, both his expression and temperament were lovely. He presents a cracking outline, not overdone with the gentle sloping firm topline that is required. Has nice front angulation with good return of upper arm, pronounced forechest and neat at elbow. Forelegs are straight with good bone leading down to neat feet with short nails. He possesses good depth to chest and his ribs are well sprung. Wide and powerful in hindquarters, good bend to stifle with hocks short and strong. Moved well around the ring holding his tail correctly.

2nd Walker’s Gwendariff Flags are Flyin

Must commend this exhibitor for entering three dogs all of whom were presented immaculately. Thank you, I very much appreciated the time and effort made with your dogs and supporting the show with your entries. Different type to first but very much worthy of his place today. Presented in lovely rich coat with profuse feathering and handled so well. Presents a lovely outline, when stood, he is nicely balanced. I did like his head, but just preferred the finish of foreface of 1st. Has good overall construction and decent angulation both front and rear. Possesses good muscle tone and bone. He moved well around the ring holding his topline.

3rd Hemmings Orlansett Mandolin

OPEN DOG (6:1)

A lovely class to judge, full of quality.

1st Ellrich’s Sh Ch& IR Sh Ch Gwendariff Absolutely Marwe’llus (IKC) WW24, CW24

Referring to my catalogue I see this lovely male sired the BPIS. So, this dog like his own sire has proven his worth in many ways, for which I compliment his breeders. I really appreciated this dog for his quality, he is a joy to go over, my hands just glided over him, and everything fits as one would wish. He is shown in good hard condition, in fabulous coat and handled to perfection. His head is balanced and handsome, nothing to dislike and he ticked the boxes on my wish list. His sound construction allowed for good movement. The YD stole my heart on the day but was very pleased to award this lovely lad the RDCC.

2ND Edwards’ Sh Ch Gwendariff Ucan’tMissme Bonhomie

Lovely male turned out to perfection in beautiful coat and condition. Both he and his handler made a smart looking team. Taller than 1st, very elegant looking dog, lovely picture when stood with a firm topline which he held on the move. Handsome lad, with lovely dark oval eye and low set ears. Neck is of desired length, muscular and cleanly fits into his shoulders. Has good depth to chest and well sprung ribs, carried well back to his muscular loin. Nicely angulated to both front and rear. Correct tail set, good bend to stifle, and neat short hocks. Straight forelegs and correct width to front. Moved well with good co-ordination.

Judge: Lindsey Jones SAFFRONSETT

North East of England Irish Setter Club Championship Show 21st October 2023

I was a last minute stand in judging dogs at this show and took on the elected judge, Joan Kniveton’s entry. Joan, I hope you are feeling much better now. My thanks to those of you who braved the weather and travelled to show under me. My steward Eddie Fairley needs a badge of honour for keeping up to date on what was happening in the other two rings so that no one missed a class.

All the dogs were presented clean although please check your feet for trimming and nails as on hard floors nothing can be hidden. Movement was a bit erratic at times. Tight leads and racing around the ring unbalanced some exhibits. Most dogs were well muscled and I thought we had some promising youngsters.

Babet brought and made it along to the show.

developed chest. Well angulated rear. Moving well for one so young. Presented in a lovely
dark coat.
2. Blackshaw & Rowbottom’s Lanstara Cherrorvale Moon Dancer Another pretty girl but will take
a little more time to come together than her sister appealing in head with dark eyes and low
set ears, long neck leading cleanly into sloping topline. Prefer her over the croup. Paler in
coat. Moving out well showing good reach.

muscular neck and sloping topline leading to good tailset. Plenty depth to chest and well
angulated rear. Moving well.
2. Bott, Allen and Morgan’s Quensha Joker and the Queen Super pretty girl, smaller made but
with plenty of substance, feminine refined head with raised brow and dark eye expressive eye.
Long neck, sloping topline, well angulated in front. Presented a racy outline, dark coat with a
nice amount of coat for her age. Developed more confidence in her classes to come and
moved better for it.
3. Sloane’s Ferasheen Pop The Champers
YB
1. Vallance’s Glencarron Second Edition to Corcencone Really impressed with the little lady
today, presented a balanced outline with lovely straight dark coat. Feminine in head with good
shape to skull, dark eyes and low set ears, arched neck leading to well placed shoulders,
sloping topline, well sprung ribs, well developed rear quarters. Moved well in her class but
lacked animation in the challenge.
2. Sloane’s Ferasheen Pop The Champers Well made feminine girl of substance with dark coat,
long and lean in head with dark expressive eyes and raised brows and low set ears, muscular
arched neck, clean over well placed shoulder to sloping topline, well developed in chest and
well bent stifle, unfortunately she seemed quite stressed today which was reflected in her
movement.
3. Nevitt’s Joaodaws Stargazer

1. Bott, Allen and Morgan’s Quensha Joker and the Queen
NB
1. Bott, Allen and Morgan’s Quensha Joker and the Queen
2. Sloane’s Ferasheen Pop The Champers
UGB
1. Sloane’s Ferasheen Pop The Champers
2. Nevitt’s Joaodaws Stargazer Prettiest of refined heads, dark eyes with kind expression and
raised brows, racy in outline with long neck and sloping topline. Not striding out as well today
as I have seen her.
3. Bentley’s Penclippin Celtic Asthore
GB Two girls who I like very much made it a difficult decision.
1. Vallance’s Lynwood Rather Ravishing at Corcencone Dark eyes, low set ears, muscular neck
leading cleanly over shoulders, sloping topline, well angulated in front with plenty depth of
chest, finished off with darkest of shiny coats. Moved really well today to take the class.
2. Stevenson’s Lochlorien Unforgotten Feminine girl with clean balanced outline, plenty depth to
chest and well angulated fore and aft, handler gets the best out of her standing but just felt
the winner had the edge on the move today.
PGB Super class of lovely ladies, all quite different and making a difficult decision.
1. Henderson’s Sametsuz Pillowtalk Really lovely little lady, feminine head with dark eye, strong
arched neck into well placed shoulders clean over topline with good tail set, plenty depth of
chest. Moving well around the ring. Finished off with a lovely straight gleaming coat with just
a nice amount of feathering.
2. Robinson’s Lanstara Red Dress at Cherrorvale Really well presented with a well conditioned
straight coat, head long and lean with dark eyes, raised brows and low set ears. Arched neck,
plenty of fore chest, good spring of rib and length of long, good bend of stifle. Moved well.
3. Box’s Fernstart Heart’s Delight JW
MLB
1. Watt’s Shenanagin Half A Sixpence Have never seen this girl looking better, at one with her
handler and presented to perfection which allowed her clean balanced outline to shine.
Prettiest of heads with dark expressive eyes, arched neck leading cleanly into well placed
shoulders. Sloping topline. Deep chest with plenty spring of rib and strength through loin.
Strong rear quarters. Moved well and in the challenge took it up a notch, carried herself so
well, In particular I noted her lovely head carriage and finished off with a level tail. In super
coat and condition. Pleasure to award her the CC and in agreement with my Co-Judge
Reserve Best In show.
2. Davie’s Lochfrae Nina Simone Feminine lady, clean and unexaggerated in outline, not in the
best of coats at the moment but what she had was gleaming and dark. Long and lean in head
with lovely shape to stop, low set ears and kind expression, lean neck flowing into gently
sloping topline, good depth to chest and plenty fore chest. Good bend to stifle. Moving well
with lovely tail carriage
LB
1. Henderson’s Sametsuz Believe In Me Cracking girl in absolute top form, balanced and full of
quality with super flowing outline from long lean neck through her sloping topline and well set
tail. Well angulated in front with lovely spring of rib and depth to chest. Powerful well
angulated rear allowed her to move well showing plenty of personality, I could tell a great deal
of time and effort has been put into her and her full gleaming coat really finished the picture.
Pleased to award RCC.
2. Longbottom’s Gwendariff We’ll Be Phame Us (IKC) Chatty little lady built on a smaller frame
but still full of breed type and substance. Pretty head with dark expressive eyes, raised brows
and lower ears, arched neck leading cleanly over well placed shoulders to sloping topline, well
angulated rear and moving well. Not in the best of coats but what she had was dark and shiny.
3. Sharman & Jennings-Sharman Kerriemere Red Ribbon JW.
SBB
1. Bentley’s Penclippin Celtic Asthore. Feminine all through, really liked her head with dark eyes
and kind expression, muscular in neck, just needing some time to develop in rear quarters and
coat. Tending to crab on the move.

The North East of England Irish Setter Club                  23.10.21

I would first like to thank the club committee for the opportunity of judging their show and secondly to all the exhibitors for the courteous and sporting way they excepted my decisions. The North East of England Irish Setter Club 19.10.2019

First of all I want to say thank you to the Committee of the NEEISC to give me the great honor to award the bitches CC’s and to all the exhibitors and their lovely dogs. I found that the quality is very high in the UK, most of the dogs were very well looked after and were presented in good nic. Only a few times I found some knots under the armpits. I recognized that a few dogs are lacking in movement, I missed reach n drive, and our lovely breed is a gundog breed which should be able to move as the standard says. What I also like to say is, that the dogs are better (very much) handled than on the continent, also the overall presentation. In some classes I wished I had more red cards! Sometimes it was a hair splitting decision on another day, it could be different! Overall I was very pleased with my entries and thank you all very, very much to made this day so very special to me! A special thank you to my 2 stewards, they did a super job! Thank you!

North East Of England Irish Setter Club Open Show

21.10.23

I would like to thank the committee for their kind invitation to judge at their well run show. It is such
an honour to be asked to judge a breed club show. Thanks must also go to my efficient steward
Barry. Most of all thanks go to the exhibitors who kindly entered their beautiful dogs. This is truly
meant as this was the weekend of Storm Babet, where the North and Scotland were on the receiving
end. So, without sounding like the Met Office, I will just say thank you so much for your dedication
and for turning out in such appalling conditions. Naturally some absentees were to be expected.

NEEISC Open Show 2019

Many thanks to the exhibitors who showed under me although I had been called in as a
substitute judge and to my stewards who had the difficult job of watching for exhibitors as
several classes clashed with those of the championship show .
My young winners had the shape ,confirmation and moved correctly .

Veteran 3(1)

Sound throughout couldn’t divide on movement but just preferred slightly the
topline of the first

Junior 3(1)
1 Sturrock Forfarian Soo Lush Best of Breed
2 Chorley Newton Kerryfair Foxy Forever

I just loved them both and wish they were mine. There was nothing exaggerated
about them, everything just fit . If you read the breed standard these two
are reflected in it in so many ways. This showed as they moved around the ring
with the drive that several older dogs did not have.On the day I just couldn’t go past
soft eye and expression of first . Both handled to perfection . Well done girls

Graduate 4(3)
1 Borthwick Lotushill Katsura
In good coat and condition, had depth and kept her top line on the move which
showed off her well bent stifle and straight hock so gave her drive . Super finish
to foreface oval head shape with low held ear .

Post Graduate 6(3)
1 Davie Lochfrae Nina Simone
A pleasure to go over this girl, flowing topline which she held, nothing about her is
exaggerated, she has a v sweet wistful expression which I find is lacking in so
so many, well defined head correct finish to flew, clean in neck ,good straight
front, well developed rear quarters, now needs the coat to finish .
2 Whitehead Gwendariff Gona Win Some
Not as together as my winner but well handled
3 Jarvis Lowdon Sleepy Time

Limit 5(1)

1 Hall Harreds Hetty
The more I went over her the more I found I admired her body properties,
I felt she needed to be kept on her toes as occasionally
relaxed too much into her front, deep in chest with spring of rib, another flowing
topline to correct tailset, beautifull sweep of stifle and short from hock to floor
moved away with drive, coat was dark and thick and wasnt in so much
abundance that it could detract from her outline
2 Hinslea Gwendariff Guess Whos Coming to Northamber
Has elegance and shows nothing in exaggeration and moved well
3 Naylor Anlory Corbieres

Open 3
1 Sturrock SH Ch Forfarian Hey Sexy Lady
One I always admired. A very refined racy girl, long lean head, low set ears with
raised brow, muscular neck, good rib, strong quarters, just didn’t hold her topline
and move as I know she can
2 Stevensons Lochlorien True Detective Is Andley
Unfortunate to meet 1 . Nothing out of place I just preferred the overall elegance of
the winner
3 Kassube Twoacres Fantasy
